Cultivate Cafe and Minter Country Garden
Over the next week we will be highlighting the businesses, organizations and people that have helped make this amazing 1,000th Post Giveaway happen, be sure to enter before Friday!
Our first time we stepped in Cultivate Cafe (10015 Young Road) located on the corner of Minter Country Garden, we knew it was something different. We got to sit down and chat with Cam and Peggy, marvellous married couple and owners, to learn all about Cam’s cooking history and his deep connection to Chilliwack. They moved back to Chilliwack to set up shop and serve some incredibly good food.
Minter Country Garden is and has been a mainstay in Chilliwack for quite sometime. Brian Minter is a legend in the gardening community for his vast knowledge and passion for everything with plants, flowers, trees and the like. Not only is Brian known for his gardening skills but he’s also the one person we have watched firsthand that understands customer service better than almost anyone we know. He’s always willing to provide the help and direction in his store for anything and everything they have there. He’s even been known to call customers and show up at their homes to check on how their gardens are doing.
We’re thankful that both of these businesses are in town and that they share the same space. We highly recommend a breakfast or lunch at Cultivate Cafe and then some perusing at Minter Country Garden.

Butcher Bro's BBQ Seasonings
Butcher Bro’s BBQ Seasonings
The incredible staff at The Town Butcher has started bottling up their favourite seasonings for you to take home and use in your own BBQ meals.
Some call us BBQ fans here at Around Chilliwack. We love cooking up everything on the Big Green Egg; everything from grilled Caesar salad, to fire roasted pizza, breakfast skillets, to cornbread and of course a nice cut of steak. You’ve developed a taste for good BBQ and with that have discovered and used a lot of different spices, sauces and rubs over the year. Discovering the locally sourced Butcher Bro’s BBQ seasonings has been a real treat.
We’ve had the chance to use a number of different jars from Butcher Bro’s and have been thoroughly impressed on how tasty and how easy it is to use. So far to date we’ve used the Nacho Taco, Traditional Smoke, and Steak Starter. All of have been exceptional and we’d recommend any of them.
If you love to cook and grill on the BBQ (maybe even on a charcoal BBQ like the Big Green Egg or Weber Kettle) then you’ll love using the Steak Starter jar for everything from burger patties, breakfast skillet or fried eggs and of course on any cut of steak you’re cooking up. We might even suggest picking up a rib-eye or Wagyu steak from The Town Butcher while you’re grabbing a jar of seasoning too.
One of our favourites to cook for the family or friends on the Big Green Egg is a cast iron pan full of nachos. What we love to do is grill/smoke up our meat on the Egg first - anything from pulled beef or pork, chicken thighs OR fry up some ground beef and use that same cast iron pan to layer up some nacho chips, cheese and your meat. Of course you’ve already added in Nacho Taco seasoning to your meat and now you’re going to add a little more on your chips and cheese. From there you’re going to bake up your nachos at 350-400 degrees and get that cheese all melty and smoky. You’ll never want to make nachos any other way again!
Cooking up eggs in the morning on your stove with some Steak Starter is also very good. It’s got the right blend of salt, pepper and garlic. It just adds that extra bit of flavour you’re looking to add to your morning!
You can pick up any of their spices at The Town Butcher (5580 Vedder Rd) or you can order them online:

Hops & Heritage Fundraiser - Chilliwack Museum
Hops & Heritage Fundraiser - Chilliwack Museum
The Chilliwack Museum & Archives hosted its inaugural Hops & Heritage Fundraiser in 2019 to great success! Although we had to cancel the 2020 event due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have re-imagined the event so that we can move forward with it in 2021! Hops & Heritage is primarily an awareness and engagement campaign that aims to connect the Chilliwack Museum & Archives with the community, and to support local businesses at the same time.
Hops & Heritage focuses on the local craft brewing and hops industry in Chilliwack, and how this industry has played an important role in the development of our economy, identity, and heritage. While this event would typically be an in-person tasting event at the Chilliwack Museum, this year we are approaching it differently. Participants will be able to purchase a Hops & Heritage Passbook from the Chilliwack Museum; each page of the passbook will feature a different local brewery. Passbooks will then be presented at participating breweries and be given a stamp indicating they have visited the brewery. The more stamps a passport has, the better chance participants will have in winning a prize. You can also receive stamps by visiting The Hops Connection Exhibition at the Chilliwack Museum.
“Our goal is not only to raise awareness about the Museum, but to encourage the community to visit all the amazing local shops and organizations in Chilliwack,” says Shawna Maurice, Executive Director, “we have ten weeks of draws for local businesses plus three grand prizes donated by Fortin’s Home Hardware, Front Foot Wealth Management, and Manning Park Resort”.
“We are so grateful to have four local breweries willing to participate,” adds Cari Moore, Coordinator of Volunteers and Administration, “Bricklayer, Farmhouse, Fieldhouse, and Old Yale have all been great to work with and they have great beer too!”
You can see a complete list of prizes and sponsors by visiting www.chilliwackmuseum.ca
Proceeds from this event will benefit the accessibility upgrades planned for the Chilliwack Museum.
Our goal is to update our front entrance and washroom to meet modern accessibility standards.
Hops & Heritage will run alongside our new exhibition, The Hops Connection, from June 24 to September 11, 2021. Weekly draws will commence the week of July 6, 2021 with the grand prize draws being held on September 13, 2021.

Chilliwack After Hours Rotary Club and Chilliwack Fraser Rotaract Club is hosting a Zoom Music Bingo Fundraiser to raise funds to support local schools with lunch and breakfast programs on May, 28.
Music Bingo has been a crowd favorite in pubs and restaurants across Canada for years and is now offered online providing a physically distanced, safe entertainment opportunity that can be enjoyed from the comfort of home. Similar to traditional Bingo, Music Bingo replaces numbers with clips from popular songs. Music Bingo cards for the fundraiser in support of Chilliwack After Hours Rotary Club and Chilliwack Fraser Rotaract Club can be purchased for $10 each online at https://online.musicbingo.com and includes 2 hours of interactive entertainment with chances to win great prizes that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
