Burning Mom - Chilliwack Cultural Centre

Sharp, funny and deeply relatable, the Vancouver Arts Club returns to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre with Burning Mom on February 4. Equal parts comedy, storytelling, and theatrical confession, Burning Mom is a fearless exploration of self-discovery and human connections that will have you laughing and crying in turn.

In this inspiring comedy, Dorothy realizes that life is too short to delay your aspirations. After losing her husband, she decides to take their RV on the road trip of his retirement dreams: she’s going to Burning Man. After all, it’s only a 21-hour drive to a weeklong culture festival and party with no plumbing in the middle of a desert—how hard can it be?

“Join us for this heartfelt, hilarious, and wholly original story about rediscovery and reinvention,” says the Vancouver Arts Club’s Artistic Director, Ashlie Corcoran. “Burning Mom is inspired by playwright Meiko Ouchi’s own mother’s late-in-life adventures. Ouchi’s play follows Dorothy—a recently widowed woman who surprises her grown children by confronting new freedoms (and unexpected encounters)— on her singular journey. Burning Mom celebrates the courage it takes to start again at any age, and we can all take a little bit of that courage home with us.”

Join Dorothy on her road trip to Burning Man as she hopes to realize the dream she shared with her late husband. Whether you’re looking for inspiration to find your path in life again, or looking for a beautiful piece of theatre, Burning Mom will be a performance that brings both hope and laughter to your evening.

Burning Mom is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on February 4, 2026 at 7:30. Tickets start at $35, with membership program discounts available, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
