Full of vitality, imagination, and breathtaking athleticism, Vividus: Full of Life leaps onto the stage with a dynamic program showcasing the bold brilliance of Ballet Kelowna. On March 28, Vividus: Full of Life features three standout works from the company’s celebrated contemporary repertoire, this electrifying evening of dance highlights the visionary voices of Canada’s leading choreographers.
Anchoring the program is Vestiges by award-winning choreographer Alysa Pires. A striking meditation on the search for true connection and meaning amid life’s chaos, the work is set to the cinematic soundscape of violinist Hilary Hahn and composer Hauschka. With bold, intricate movement and sweeping musicality, Vestiges showcases the extraordinary versatility and technical prowess of Ballet Kelowna’s dancers.
In contrast, The Forever Part by Kirsten Wicklund offers an ethereal and introspective exploration of longing and permanence. Inspired by daydreams and the tension between desire and restriction, this poignant ensemble work blends rhythmic group passages with stirring duets, creating a moving reflection on yearning, anxiety, and the complexities of forever.
Rounding out the evening, former Principal Dancer and Choreographic Associate with The National Ballet of Canada, Guillaume Côté, brings fresh imagination to Le Carnaval des Animaux by Camille Saint-Saëns. This playful reimagining of one of the composer’s most beloved works bursts with whimsical detail and exuberant energy. With frolicking movement and inventive contemporary flair, the piece pushes the boundaries of ballet while delighting audiences of all ages.
