Where To Shop in Chilliwack

Chilliwack Has More to Discover Than You Might Think

One of the best things about shopping in Chilliwack is that you never quite know what you’re going to find.

You might head downtown looking for a gift and come home with something you didn’t even know you were looking for. You might walk into a little boutique because something caught your eye in the window. Or you might discover a local maker, artist, designer or small business that you’ve driven past a dozen times without ever stopping.

That’s part of what makes shopping local in Chilliwack so much fun.

There are the familiar places we’ve been visiting for years, along with new businesses constantly adding something different to the mix. From clothing and home décor to gifts, books, records, vintage finds, locally made products and specialty food, there’s a lot to explore around town.

And you don’t necessarily have to spend a whole afternoon shopping to enjoy it.

Sometimes it’s as simple as parking downtown, grabbing a coffee and wandering.

Downtown Chilliwack Is Made for Exploring

Downtown continues to be one of the best places to start when you’re looking for something a little different.

Places like The Local Space bring together Canadian and local products, gifts, home goods and plenty of things you probably won’t find at a big-box store.

A few steps away, Homemade Community Shoppe gives local makers a place to showcase their work, making it one of those shops where every visit can be a little different.

Then there are the shops that make you slow down and browse.

The Book Man has become a Chilliwack institution for anyone who loves getting lost among books, while Nuggets Used Books offers that wonderfully unpredictable used-book experience where you never quite know what treasure might be sitting on the shelf.

And if music is more your thing, Chilliwax Records is another reminder that local shopping can be about more than simply buying something. Sometimes it’s about finding something that connects with you.

District 1881: Shop, Wander, Repeat

There’s also something special about the shopping experience around District 1881.

The pedestrian-friendly streets and laneways make it easy to wander from one business to another, with boutiques, gift shops, makers, food and coffee all mixed together.

Spruce Collective Chilliwack is one of those stops where you can find gifts, home goods, clothing and locally inspired products, while nearby shops like Witchy Boo offer something completely different.

That’s really the fun of shopping in a place like Chilliwack.

It doesn’t all look the same.

There’s More to Chilliwack Than Downtown

While downtown is an easy place to start, some of Chilliwack’s best shopping discoveries are scattered throughout the rest of the community.

Head south and you’ll find Winks in Sardis, a charming shop filled with home décor, gifts, table linens, jewelry and beautiful finds for the home. It’s the kind of place where you can walk in looking for a gift and end up finding something for yourself, too.

Further down in Garrison Village, Unika offers a completely different shopping experience. Their modern approach to resale combines new and pre-loved clothing, accessories and footwear, proving that shopping sustainably doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style.

And then there are the places that make you want to take the scenic route.

Yarrow has its own little collection of treasures, including Fox & Thistle Mercantile, a village shop offering carefully selected home goods, gifts, vintage finds and everyday products. You’ll also find the long-standing MCC Yarrow Thrift Shop, which has been part of the community since 1972.

That’s one of the things we love about shopping in Chilliwack. You don’t always have to head to the busiest shopping district to find something worth discovering.

Sometimes the best shopping trip is the one that takes you a little farther down the road.

Shopping Local Is About More Than Shopping

Of course, when we talk about shopping local, it’s easy to make it sound like we’re simply telling you where to spend your money.

But there’s more to it than that.

When you buy something from a locally owned shop, you’re often meeting the person who chose the products, created the business or built the space you’re standing in.

You get recommendations.

You get stories.

You sometimes get to know the people behind the business.

And those little interactions are part of what makes a community feel like a community.

That’s something you don’t always get when you’re simply clicking “add to cart.”

Find Something You Didn't Know You Were Looking For

Maybe that’s the biggest reason we love shopping around Chilliwack.

You can make a list and go looking for something specific.

Or you can simply wander.

Find a new boutique.

Flip through a few records.

Browse a shelf of used books.

Look through locally made gifts.

Check out some vintage clothing.

Find something for your home.

Or discover a small business you’ll want to come back to.

Chilliwack has plenty of places to do all of it.

So the next time you need to do a little shopping, consider putting the big-box stores aside for an afternoon and seeing what’s around the corner.

Because sometimes the best things you bring home aren’t the things you went looking for.

They’re the things you discover.

Bringing Local Closer To Home.
